A Nursery Rhyme - A Poem by N. Daniel

A Nursery Rhyme

Once upon the dearest time the sweetness of a nursery rhyme halted my hopeless, bitter thoughts like romances in tragic plots. There was a princess long ago, a woman peasants longed to know whose role forbid her every choice in chains beneath her lovely voice. By day she sat beside the queen in silence like a figurine, while harmonies inside her head left her ears deaf to what was said. One evening spent beyond the walls, charmed by the stars that chanced to fall, I caught in pools of pale moonlight hymns freely floating through the night. The day the princess ran away made her a home in far away. Remembering now that melody, and nursery rhymes that should be free.
